Moon Taxi kicked off their weekend in Knoxville at the Mill & Mine on February 11th. This was the first of two back-to-back shows for the Nashville-based indie rock band at this rustic venue, which was packed with dancing fans of all ages. Connor Kelly & The Time Warp opened the show, a local rock and roll band that embraces the vintage vibes – from the flowing hair to the bell bottoms. Kelly’s band played quite an extensive set and perfectly complemented Moon Taxi’s aesthetic in their blend of chill, catchy, positive rock grooves with a psychedelic flair. Next, Moon Taxi took over the show with a simple stage setup – just the band members, some creative lighting, and a big disco ball. Frontman Trevor Terndrup spent a lot of the show recognizing their roots and the Scruffy City (Knoxville’s nickname), talking about the small venues they played in their early years and giving shoutouts to their keyboardist and Knoxville native, Wes Bailey. The long set included many of the band’s top hits and fan favorites, including “Morocco,” “Let the Record Play,” “All Day All Night,” “Not Too Late,” “River Water,” “Two High,” and “Cabaret,” which the band released ten years ago this year. The show was visually stunning with the lighting alone, and the music kept fans wanting more with a jamming keyboard solo and a showstopping drum solo. Moon Taxi and their audience are so diverse, friendly, and positive that this show felt like a family reunion, and it was refreshing to be a part of this special night.
