Rob Zombie came to TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park in support of The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy, his 7th solo studio album since departing White Zombie in 1998. True to form, the new material is a delirious, nightmarish metal ride from the macabre showman. Opening act Chevelle got the crowd on their feet and ready to rock. After a quick set change, the lights dimmed. Rob Zombie took the stage as the crowd rose back to their feet and pushed forward to get a glimpse of the spectacle to behold. With his characteristic cowboy hat and wild hair, Zombie’s look was fitting to his name. He opened with “The Triumph of King Freak.” Band mates John 5 on guitar and Piggy D on bass wore a variety of ghoulish masks throughout the night to add to the effect. Multiple video monitors played horror clips in the background. Pulsing lights completed the visual onslaught. Throughout the evening he encouraged more crowd engagement. Head banging, and devil horns waving were seen throughout the night. His energy was unparalleled and a sight to behold. He hopped from platform to platform, never a still moment. A true showman, Rob Zombie is the quintessential rockstar. After their long set, a quick break led to their return for “Dragula.” An amazing performance and a wild crowd made a great Friday night out!
