Needtobreathe (NTB) came to Indy in support of their new album Into the Mystery. The band comes out of the pandemic with new material and an excitement to get back to performing to a live audience. A slight lineup change has also occurred with the departure of guitarist Bo Rinehart and introduction of Tyler Burkum. The evening kicked off with energetic sets by Switchfoot and The New Respects.  The capacity crowd erupted with cheers as the lights dimmed as NTB took the stage. The self-proclaimed “biggest rock band you’ve never heard of” showed us why as their huge loyal fanbase sang every lyric. No one sat the entire performance. A huge LED screen background played videos and a colorful light show provided visual effects to complement their performance. They opened with “Alive” off their critically acclaimed album Out of Body. Band members included Bear Rinehart on lead vocals and guitar. Seth Bolt played bass. Josh Lovelace was on the keyboard. Randall Harris played drums and newest member Tyler Burkum was the lead guitarist. The Southern rockers were charming, engaging and full of energy. Bear described how the band quarantined together during the pandemic in a small Tennessee town. They produced Into the Mystery in only 3 weeks, a process that normally would have taken them over a year. They mixed things up throughout the night with acoustic songs, covers as well as their new and old material. They had members of Switchfoot and The New Respects join them on stage for several songs. Their encore included acoustic versions of “Brother” and new release “West Texas Wind.” The 2-hour set came to a conclusion due to the local curfew, otherwise they said they would have kept playing. It was another great performance and I think it was well appreciated by the wildly enthusiastic crowd.
