The Dead Daisies are a solid rock band that never disappoints. With an ever-changing lineup, you never know for sure how the band will deliver in a live situation. The latest incarnation of the band took to the road and landed at Westland, MI’s The Token Lounge to a packed crowd that was ready for some Daisies music, new and old, as well as a smattering of covers. Keep in mind, the band has always delivered some great covers, but tonight featured a couple classics from the newest frontman / bassist previous band Deep Purple. The band was tight as they moved through songs from their catalog, including a set loaded with eight tracks from their latest release Holy Ground. Hughes, with guitarists Doug Aldrich and David Lowy and drummer Tommy Clufetos in tow, moved through the set with precision and determination to not only deliver the new material but also demonstrate their grasp of the bands past and catalog. The set featured at least one track from each studio release, with Burn It Down also getting some major time with four songs in the set. There was some banter between band members and Glenn addressed the crowd frequently to welcome them back to live music and new material. As usual with a show from the Daisies, the set was peppered with covers that seems to add depth and punch to the material, including “Midnight Moses,” Deep Purple’s “Righteous Days” and “Burn,” and a cool rendition of “Fortunate Son.” While we may our own favorite lineups from the band’s past, there is no mistaking the fact that these guys rock with the best of them and are proudly carrying the banner set before them.
Setlist: Unspoken – Rise Up – Dead and Gone – Chosen and Justified – Mexico – Bustle and Flow – Lock ‘n’ Load – Come Alive – Song and a Prayer – Midnight Moses – Mistreated – Righteous Days – My Fate – Leave Me Alone – Fortunate Son – Resurrected – Like No Other (Bassline) – Holy Ground (Shake the Memory) – Long Way to Go – Burn
