With only one show shot and reviewed in the last 10+ months, I was excited to find myself camera in hand at a venue witnessing live music once again.  The venue was a cool little country joint The Stockyard located in a storefront strip and the evenings entertainment was a pair of up-n-coming Country artists (and best friends) Allie Colleen and her special guest Carly Rogers.  With a quick introduction, Carly took to the stage with nothing but a solo cup and a guitar.  She played song after song, giving each a bit of a storyteller vibe while welcoming the growing crowd into her world for the evening.  As she worked through her set, she dropped a couple tracks that stuck with me long enough to get home and lock them into my Amazon library: “Just Another” and “Drunk Side Of Drinkin’.”  Her love of the music and the moment were evident as she soaked in the applause and banter between herself and the group gathered in front of the stage.  The songs were strong and the set list well constructed, in order to allow her time to build and swell until her last lyric was sang and final note strummed.

After a short break, Allie Colleen hit the stage with a band in tow… for the first time.  Not one to shy away from playing acoustic, she embraced having players supporting and enhancing her throughout the show, but for a short solo stint in the middle of her set.  Without much fanfare, she busted into songs that have been available on your favorite DSPs, but also tore into new tracks that have been brewing and were recently cut for release later this winter.  After opening with two tracks that helped warm the crowd up, she unleashed the one-two punch of “Best Friend” and “Road You Take,” the combo raising the bar and priming the musical pump.  There were covers blended into the set, as well as new material penned and co-penned by Allie.  Before breaking the set down and shedding the band for four songs, Allie and her band worked their way through one of her favorites from her upcoming disc, the title track “Stones.”  Her acoustic set kicked of with another killer track “Work In Progress,” which happened to be her debut single back in summer of 2019.  She wrapped her way through three more tracks and her band joined her back on stage to help work through the rest of the show, which featured more new tracks, including “Pink Lemonade,” the sole track on the new disc that Allie had no part in writing.  One of my favorite track from Allie, “Ain’t The Only Hell (My Momma Raised),” was worked into the set as she and the guys wove their way to the final songs of the evening.  Based on the crowd feedback to the track, I am guessing I wasn’t alone in my wanting to hear and sing along with the track.  A cool cover that was part of the closing tunes was Deanna Carter’s “Strawberry Wine,” which Allie Colleen commented every female singer in Nashville had in their repertoire.  She closed out with “Wildflower” before deciding to come back to the stage and treat the crowd to one more, the joyously tongue-in-cheek “Bullshit Song.”  All in all, a show that will stick in the memory for most of us for some time to come, as she played with all she had and left it all on the stage for her fans, new and old.
