Sugarloaf Rock Festival Announced for Margaret River

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2020
Doors: 1pm
Venue: 3 Oceans Winery, Metricup WA

For music fans, this is set to be the Margaret River Region’s hottest summer on record. The good folk behind Here Comes The Sun Festival are proud to announce Sugarloaf Rock – an all-day fiesta of great food, great wine, and the best musical talent in Australia.

Named after the infamous rock formation, Sugarloaf Rock (and the sometimes treacherous seas that pound it) is one of the most photographed coastal landforms in the region. But the name will now be forever synonymous with some of the biggest names in rock throughout Australia and the world. Taking over its spiritual home of the beautiful 3 Oceans Winery on Saturday February 8, 2020, Sugarloaf Rock will provide a smorgasbord of the best local artisan stores and entertainment, plus an absolutely ridiculous line-up of Australian talent. This event is not to be missed!

3 Oceans Winery is the ideal place to host Sugarloaf Rock for good reason… it proved to be a monster hit with attendees of Here Comes The Sun, and has a rich history of classic live music events – from Xavier Rudd and Tash Sultana to Rüfüs Du Sol. From its stunning grounds to its selection of internationally renowned wines, 3 Oceans is the star of Metricup – located 16 kilometres from Margaret River and only 30 kilometres from Busselton down the Bussell Highway.

THE LINE-UP What more could possibly be said about headliners Grinspoon?!? One of Australian rock’s undisputed titans, Grinners have been the country’s greatest live act for over 20 years, and like a fine wine they keep on getting better with age. Pulling out every classic hit, plus favourites from this week’s ARIA Top #10 “Chemical Hearts (Best Of) Album, that fans have been begging for, the timeless line-up of Phil Jamieson, Pat Davern, Joe Hansen and Kristian Hopes is the perfect band to set Sugarloaf Rock ablaze. Seven classic albums, 26 hit singles, and ARIAs up the yingyang… nobody does it better than Grinspoon.

Another absolutely legendary act, Wolfmother return to WA for an explosive appearance at Sugarloaf Rock. For 15 years the Sydney trio have been one of Australia’s most successful exports, with a staggeringly massive fanbase across the globe. Who doesn’t remember the first time they heard Woman blasting through the speakers!? Since then Wolfmother, fronted by the incomparable Andrew Stockdale, have released four classic albums and have been collecting ARIA Awards and Triple J Hottest 100 spots like nobody’s business.

A true original, there is no other band on the planet like Dead Letter Circus. Creative, beautiful and blissfully heavy, DLC have been at the forefront of Australian progressive music for a decade. Since debuting with their now-classic album This Is The Warning, the Brisbane quintet have released a vast and artistically daring spectrum of music, from their trademark sound to stripped-back acoustic re-imaginings, coming full circle with 2018’s stupendous The Armour You Own. Celebrating their recent ARIA nomination, DLC are super keen to get back to their WA fans, with whom they have always had a kindred connection.

Has there ever been a better band of siblings than the Findlay sisters? Better known to the world as Stonefield, the four-piece blew minds when they emerged from their country Victorian home as fresh-faced youngsters back in 2006. Fast-forward to 2019 and Stonefield have just toured the UK in support of their latest album Bent – sharing the stage with King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. Their most exciting work to date, Bent was recorded almost 100% live… a testament to what an incredible band this is to witness in concert.

Abbe May’s sheer creativity has led to a body of work that smashes through musical boundaries – traversing everything from classic grunge, to high-octane blues, to smouldering EDM. With one of the most powerful voices in Australian rock history, Abbe has become revered at home and around the world for her ability to switch from a seductive whisper to a banshee howl in the blink of an eye. Always working, Abbe has released five killer albums and literally dozens of singles, yet it is her live show that truly shows how epically brilliant she is.

The hottest live act in Australia right now, The Southern River Band have been touring non-stop to meet the demand of fans right around the country. Hot on the heels of their Rumours & Innuendo National Album Tour, the boys have more momentum than an unstoppable tsunami. With irrepressible flair, razor sharp chops and one of the best live shows you will ever see, the hype is definitely, definitely real with these Perth legends-inthe-making.

Legs Electric are easily Australia’s most fired-up band of hard rock vixens. Legs Electric bring the danger back to rock’n’roll, mixing classic rock chops with the serpentine sass of LA’s Sunset Strip. Know for putting on an incendiary live show, Legs Electric blast out a wall of sound driven by huge guitars, mammoth drums, and soaring vocals. Hard rock doesn’t get more authentic than this.

Sugarloaf Rock is a flagship festival that will cater to the South West’s booming live music fanbase. This inaugural event will be a gathering of like-minded music fans, artisans and classic Australian talent alike – creating a moment.
