LIVE: BRAVE THE ROYALS – April 29, 2019

Venue: The Concourse

City: Knoxville, TN

Date: April 29, 2019

Review and Photographs by: Rachel Craig (

Brave The Royals treated Knoxville to an ethereal experience at The Concourse, combining the band members’ incredible history with a beautiful stage presence. The band features Brian Vodinh (vocals, guitar), Chad Grennor (bass, vocals), and Luke Narey (drums) from 10 Years, another Knoxville-based band with a very recognizable name in alternative rock and metal. The show started off with a small snag – a broken string – but things moved on quickly with a joke about touring for 20 years but still never believing you’ll break a string.

Brave The Royals’ setlist moved through completely new material, along with their single “Dreamer,” which has been playing on radio stations across the U.S. (especially 101.5 VLZ in Knoxville) and even had some air time on SiriusXM’s Octane. Their music was the perfect rock music for chilling at a show, but it still kept the audience’s attention. The band’s stage presence was also captivating, yet simple. The cube-shaped lights around the stage changed colors to the music while The Concourse’s lighting created the perfect moody, colorful backdrop. Brave The Royals moved through songs like “Lifeline,” “Fireflies,” “Complicated,” “Eleanor,” and “Hold On” before ending the set with “Dreamer,” which featured an extended ending.

Brave The Royals are set to release an album later this year, and personally I can’t wait to hear the finished product. This band is a great opportunity for these musicians to think outside the box and create something fans wouldn’t typically hear from 10 Years, let alone a typical rock show. Hopefully, the new music will allow them to tour even more and become a bigger name in alternative music. I’m sure their experience will help them skyrocket into success and allow them to continue their increasingly stunning performances.

Setlist: Lifeline – Fireflies – Complicated – Light Years – Alive – Eleanor – Hold On – Dreamer
