Jackyl made a stop at The Machine Shop to help kick off the holiday season with their ‘Annual Christmas Family Reunion’ show mid December and we were there to witness the fun and games that is a Jackyl show. After a rousing opening set from Every Mother’s Nightmare, the stage was quickly converted for Jesse James Dupree and his merry group of musicians to take the stage take the SOLD OUT crowd on a killer rock and roll ride full of music, banter, and of course the smell of a chainsaw slicing through a bar stool at nights end. Kicking the show into high gear from the onset with song after song highlighted by Dupree’s vocals and searing lead riffs from guitarist Jeff Worley, the band was on a tear. Song after song ripped through the venue’s sound system and took the audience on a cool musical journey through the bands catalog, especially their huge hits from the bands debut. Each track was anchored by drummer Chris Worley and bassist Roman Glick, keeping the setlist moving without allowing it to runaway with itself. When the band ripped into my personal favorite “Push Comes To Shove” all bets were off and my night was complete, even though other Jackyl classics like “Just Because I’m Drunk,” “I Stand Alone,” and “Dirty Little Mind” were still to come as the night wound its way toward the finale. Jesse pushed forward and led the band through other fan favorites “Redneck Punk” and “She Loves My Cock” working the crowd into a frenzy as the anticipation grew until the moment when we all heard that familiar sound of a chainsaw slicing through the night. Soon we were treated to “The Lumberjack” as we all witnessed Jesse make kindling out of a perfectly good stool and closed the show, leaving gas engine smoke and smell in the air, music ringing in our ears, and smiles on our faces.
