WAMAWARDS 2018 WINNERS ANNOUNCED

KICKING OFF THE BIGGEST WAMFEST YET

Ahead of this weekend’s biggest WAMFest & WAMCon program yet, the 2018 WAMAwards lead the way in shining a dazzling light on an incredible weekend of local music to come. Taking place in its luxe new home at The Hyatt Regency, this year’s sold out WAMAwards were bigger than ever. Welcoming international and national industry experts, and WA’s finest music exports and up-and-comers, WA’s music industry went all out last night celebrating the exciting yet humble industry that inhabits the West.

It was a big night of doubling down with Alana Macpherson, Caitlin Nienaber, Carla Geneve, Feels, Jacob Diamond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Odette Mercy all receiving two awards each. But ultimately it was Elise Reitze-Swensen and Rosie Taylor of electronic duo Feels who lead the way with three awards, with their label WOMPP (Women Of Music Production Perth) picking up the award for Label Of The Year on top of awards for Best Live Electronic Act and Best Electronic Producer.

It was no surprise to see adored former RTRFM brekkie host Caitlin Nienaber awarded both Industry Representative of the Year and the prestigious Golden WAMi. Having hung up the headphones to head East earlier this year, the awards were a perfect parting gift for Caitlin who flew back to celebrate the win with Perth’s music community.

The night also paid tribute in honouring this year’s two Hall of Fame Inductees Dixie Battersby (DB Publicity) and The Stems with these phenomenal individuals taking their place amongst the local legends before them. All have been integral in shaping the current landscape of our local and National industry.

For the fifth year in a row, (clearly) WA’s favourite spot to catch budding local music Mojos Bar picked up the award for Most Popular Venue.

The Annual Kiss My Camera awards went out to Denis Radacic, Emanual Rudnicki, and Matsu.

The night also featured stellar performances by Hall of Fame inductees The Stems, award winners Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Carla Geneve, Hyclass and award nominees Gemma Farrell Quintet, Your Girl Pho, and Ralway Bell. Needless to say, the WAMAwards set an exciting precedent to kick off WAMFest Live and WAMCon 2018!
