Super groups come and go – seldom do they evolve into a full blown band that records and tours year after year… The Dead Daisies have evaded that ideology and philosophy.  Out touring once again to support their fourth disc Burn It Down, the band stopped by one of my favorite rock clubs – The Machine Shop – and brought their blend of killer rock and roll to an exited Flint, MI crowd.  After a rousing set by Dizzy Reed’s Hookers N Blow, the stage was converted and readied for the headliners to hit the venue and audience with everything they had.  Kicking off the set with two new tracks from their latest disc “Resurrected” and “Rise Up,” The Daisies set the bar for their performance.  Front man John Corabi controlled the shows flow from behind the mic while lead guitarist Doug Aldrich and rhythm guitarist David Lowy flanked him in presence as well as sonically with guitar riffs and solos.  Pulling various songs from the last couple releases, the band played high energy rock from open to close especially on tracks like the anthemic “Make Some Noise” and rousing “Song and a Prayer.”  The rhythm section of Marco Mendoza on bass and new drummer Deen Castronovo anchored the set and sound on tracks like “What Comes Around,” “Last Time I Saw The Sun,” and a crowd favorite “Mexico.”  The bands energy was matched by the crowds excitement and enthusiasm as the group clicked seamlessly though their 90 minute set.  In addition to the killer originals, the band has developed a penchant for covers from various classic and legendary rock bands and many of those songs made into tonight’s setlist, with CCR’s “Fortunate Son” and The Rolling Stones classic “Bitch” revving the crowd up.  My personal favorite helped close the set when The Sensational Alex Harvey Bands “Midnight Moses” paired up with a cover of “Helter Skelter” to end the evenings festivities.  If you get the opportunity to check them out on their current tour that runs through mid September, I highly recommend you grab your rocker friends and head out for a night of fun and rock and roll.
