Junkadelic Brass Band announce album and tour

Junkadelic Brass Band have finally taken their high-energy performances off the street and into the studio, with their first album, Travelling in the Footsteps.

Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, Junkadelic Brass Band combines a smoking hot six-piece brass section with hard-hitting percussion using recycled instruments to bring you a face-melting blend of street rhythms. They have performed at major festivals across Australia, including WA’s Fairbridge Festival, Perth International Arts Festival and Southbound and internationally in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Hong Kong.

The Junkadelic Collective started taking ‘junk’ and turning it into music in 2002. Inspired by Mardi Gras and Calypso festivals, they created a DIY culture, re-purposing everyday items as musical instruments to embrace ‘edu-tainment’ and showing what is possible with a little imagination.

Now, after sixteen years, Junkadelic has evolved to form the Junkadelic Brass Brand and have recorded their first album.

Junkadelic Brass Band is a band like no other says Music Director, Marc Osborne.

“We play buckets. Loudly and proudly. It’s a strange band because it’s been together for sixteen years and only now recorded a full album. It’s a strange band because from its protest street band origins, the music we make now has evolved into something very special and uniquely our own. That sound comes from using what have: junk percussion, the synergy of a family of musicians and great writing whilst always drawing from our musical upbringings. What you hold in your hand now is the culmination of that evolution”.

The album is a collection of songs from previous years and plays tribute to everyone who has been involved with the Junkadelic Collective over the years.

“It represents an awesome ride and now we will look forward to marching forward on our musical journey, deep in the footsteps of those who’ve come before”, says Marc.

Travelling in the Footsteps will be launched in September as Junkadelic Brass Band commence a tour with dates in Queensland and Western Australia.

Friday Sept 7 – The Doo-Bop Jazz Bar – Brisbane
Friday Sept 14 – Mojos – Fremantle
