Howard Jones brought his intimate solo act to around 500 fans at the Tarkington Theatre. Known for his one-man band, he gained massive fame in the 80’s with his synth pop style. Nearly 40 years later he is still making new music. Tonight’s performance was equal dialogue and music. He sat alone at the keyboard on a large stage with only a few simple back lights. He explained his upbringing with classical piano, dropping out of the Royal College of Music in Manchester, and working at a Saran wrap factory while trying to make his name in the local UK music scene. After getting a strong local following he got his first break when he signed with Warner records. His first single “New Song” climbed the charts in the US and UK, and eventually culminated in his album Human’s Lib reaching #1. He gave the background of each of his songs and what motivated their writing. One his most memorable experiences during his rise was performing at Live Aid. There he met the likes of Queen, Phil Collins, and Paul McCartney.  After his contract with Warner expired he continued writing music, production and running a restaurant. He formed his own label DTox and has continued to tour over the years. His current projects include songs for the soundtrack of Eddie the Eagle, and for upcoming animated movie Animal crackers.  Howard played a diverse setlist to compliment his engaging story telling throughout the night. It was a trip down memory lane as well as fascinating glimpse into Howard Jones amazing career.

Setlist: The Prisoner – Someone You Need – Look Mama – Hide and Seek – Hero in Your Eyes – New Song – God Only Knows – Blackbird – Careless Whisper – Everlasting Love / Twist and Shout – One Last Try – Even If I Don’t Say – Life in One Day – What Is Love? – Don’t Always Look at the Rain – No One Is To Blame – Things Can Only Get Better
