Julian Angel’s first album in three or four years is his first flying the truly solo flag, rather than the solo-in-all-but-name Beautiful Beast. It’s a one-way time travelling flashback to the crazy days of teased hair and tight spandex

Yes, every day is 1989 in Julian Angel’s world, and it works because the man is so goddamned talented – great songs, great playing (all by Angel himself) – that, although everything is grounded in those politically incorrect days of excess and sexcess, it still sounds vibrant and essential today.

You see, it wouldn’t mean a thing without great songs – why revisit the past to deliver a shadow of what made them great? Nope, here everything rocks up to twelve (Angel prefers to go TWO louder!)

The Teutonic Angel rips and tears through 11 songs about late nights, bad babes, hot rock and steamy trysts, and let’s face it: if this really WAS 1989, Angel would be touring the world with the likes of The Scorpions and Motley Crue.

Check out Phonograph Needle and Rock Like A Woman for some David Lee Roth styled whoop n’ hollerin’ rock; Shoot Me Down and Monsterous for the purest essence of hair metal, ever; and Friday Nite Wild for something better than Bon Jovi when they used to rock.
