7/10

Mummies are magic,
they kiss away troubles,
find gold in the sunlight
and rainbows in bubbles.

A beautiful and heart-warming book about the special bond between mothers and their children.

Mummies are Lovely is gorgeously designed, with a variety of breeds of cats and their kittens playing and snuggling together.

The rhymes are cute and have a good flow, and this book is a lot of fun to read aloud.

But where this book stands out for this reviewer is actually in the understated pages. The illustrations of the cats are done in wonderful detail, but the plain background deserves some credit, too. So many children’s books these days are much too busy, making it hard to know where to focus. Lovšin addresses this with her signature style, ensuring that the reader’s eyes are instantly drawn to these gorgeous cats and their kittens.

This book won’t change your life, but it’s pretty cute, fun to read out loud, and a give Mum the first Sunday in May!
