We all know the story of Alice in Wonderland, and yet, every so often, a new edition is released.
More often than not it’s the same story we already know, but with some kind of twist or a different batch of illustrations to accompany it.
Alison Jay lends her signature style to this well-known tale, and the result is a very nice match indeed.
Jay’s style, with its cracked-glaze appearance, lends something of a classic air to the images, befitting a story that recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, and the brightness of the colours add to the surreal feeling that the story invokes.
All in all this is a rather nice book and a great addition to the shelves of any collector of variations on Alice in Wonderland, but, thanks to Alison Jay’s name within the children’s publishing market and signature style, this would also be a good choice for a young reader venturing into the tale for the first time.
