Hailing from Warsaw, the five piece grimy dirty rock n’ rollers Poison Heart cook up a tasty boogie punk stew on third album Strong Ties. Irrepressibly energetic and full of spirit, the band sound like they’re giving it their all, and – whilst never posing a real threat to established classics – the end result is an absolutely sincere and thoroughly enjoyable romp.

The riffy rage of Loser’s Game; the gruff Foghat-for-a-mohawked-generation growl of Magic Woman; the tailor-made-for-slamming catchy punky romp Anthem (For Friends) is 2:46 of bitter aggression; but the standout song has to be Destination: Hell. Dripping with Johnny Thunders-like nihilism, it’s almost a disappointment to realise that this is a cover rather than Poison Heart’s own shining moment. It’s a great rage through the Turbonegro track, though, and there are other hints that Turbonegro are role models for the Poles, with cover and disc images pointing to fetishism and sadomasochism.
