Australian actress Isla Fisher may be more famous for her roles in Home & Away and movies such as The Wedding Crashers, and marriage to Sacha Baron Cohen, but she proves herself adept at writing an engaging, fun and witty book aimed at the 7-9 year olds with Marge In Charge.
Marge is Jemima and Jake’s new babysitter, and at first glance they don’t think she looks very promising at all. But as soon as Mum & Dad leave for the night, the rather old and sensible looking Marge lets down her rainbow coloured hair and engage the children with a remarkable evening of racing snails, chocolate soup, and mixing up a bathtime tub full of potions! Marge is canny too, ensuring that the children clean up in time for bedtime, lest she not be invited back to look after them again.
There are three lovely stories herein, all illustrated with a wicked sense of fun by Eglantine Ceulemans, and will no doubt be the start of a series by Fisher.
