Here’s a debate for you: Does an artist need to be breaking new ground to be artistically valid? I vote for no: ever since Elvis stole his licks and moves from Little Richard, Big Mama Thornton and more, and every man and his dog stole theirs from him, reinvention and reinterpretation has been the order for the day for rock n’ roll.
Stellar Revival have delivered an album which breaks no new ground at all, but is a collection of thoroughly enjoyable rock songs that are played well and produced impeccably.
Originally released in 2013, this reissue on Lion’s Pride Music includes a clutch of excellent acoustic and demo B-sides, making it even more desirable than on initial release and, as per Todd’s 9-star review at that time, it’s chock-full of stadium rocking anthems and lighters-aloft ballads.
