LIVE: CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD – JULY 28, 2015 (Knoxville, TN)
City: Knoxville, TN
Date: July 28, 2015
Review and Photographs by: Jeffrey Everett
The Chris Robinson Brotherhood (CRB) graced Knoxville with an amazing performance on a Tuesday night at the Bijou. Robinson was the frontman of the highly successful Black Crowes for nearly 25 years. His former band officially called it quits in January. The CRB have been performing for nearly 4 years now and have developed a great chemistry in such a short time. Other members include Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Adam MacDougall (keys), Mark Dutton (bass, vocals) and Tony Leone (drums). Those expecting some old ones from the Black Crowes were in for a disappointment. The CRB is whole new experience, a bit more relaxed, psychedelic, but still maintaining a hint of blues. Oft described as a jam band, this moniker sells them short. Their sets were performed meticulously with only a few extended guitar jams. Chris maintained his signature vocals but had a more subdued stage presence. They played 2 long sets that lasted 3 hours. They polished off the evening with the appropriate encore cover Memphis, Tennessee. I was blown away by their performance. A psychedelic throwback trip complete with incense burning on stage. If you have the chance to see the CRB live, they are a must see!
