Released in the middle of last year, Elodie Adams’ debut EP is a tour-de-force of symphonic neo-goth metal, cherry-picking the best elements of the genre and playing to the young Melbourne talent’s abundant strengths, inSUBORDINATE is beholden to no-one other than Adams and her team.
A musical prodigy who started studying classical violin from the tender age of 4, and opera from age 7, Elodie not only sings and writes the songs, programs the drum machines, plays the synth and delivers astounding violin solos on both Born To Love You and the title track.
With lavish violin (courtesy of Erica Kennedy) and dark guitar riffs like slabs of ice falling from a mountain (Brendan Thompson), inSUBORDINATE is a unique take on an often overbaked genre, and whatever this precocious talent turns her hand to next should be watched closely, as she has the talent to be a game changer with the right team behind her.
