Texas based Hellyeah stormed into Knoxville on the southeast leg of their Blood for Blood tour.  Formed in 2006 as a supergroup, the quintet includes Chad Gray (Mudvayne), Vinnie Paul (Pantera), Tom Maxwell (Nothingface), Kyle Sanders, and Christian Brady.  The have released 4 albums.  The most recent, Blood for Blood was one of the most commercially successful metal albums of 2014. It also shows the bands evolution.  More emotion, more metal and self-expression are evident on the tracks.  Dropping the party vibe, Hellyeah means business. No strangers to Knoxville, the band was here in October with Volbeat and Five Finger Death Punch.  Tonight was entirely different. There was no doubt who was the headliner!  After solid performances from Devour the Day and Like a Storm, Hellyeah took the stage. The crowd was electric and ready for the assault. Hellyeah came out swinging. The bass vibrated your entire being in the small club. Kyle’s dreads were whipping around like a cyclone.  Guitarists Brady and Maxwell killed it with brutal riffs. Drummer Vinnie Paul was in usual form true to his Pantera roots. Chad was all energy and the quintessential showman. He poured emotion into every song and had the audience captivated. He said his screams were an emotional catharsis and encouraged the crowd to join in. When they started with “Sangre por Sangre,” Kyle spit blood on Chad’s face. Face red and dripping, he belted out the lyrics to the crowd’s delight.  The throw back was reminiscent of Gene Simmons and Kiss.  The crowd certainly got their money’s worth tonight, with three great performances. Hellyeah is high-energy ride from start to finish!
