If you like Orden Ogan, you should like this album. There was no new ground broken here. Orden Ogan sticks with the same formula that has worked well for them. Well crafted songs, great vocal harmonies and great guitar tones are all present here, along with slick production. The only criticism I have is that this album lacks the clear stand out track that we see on the previous efforts. There is no song at the level of “The Things We Believe In” from “To the End” or “We are Pirates” from “Easton Hope” that draws me to hit the repeat button over and over to relisten to a single track. The closest we get to that on “Ravenhead” is “F.E.VE.R.” Certainly this is the stand out track on this album, but as good as it is I don’t find myself hitting the repeat button over and over. Regardless, this is a great album that is solid start to finish, and it will certainly be on my regular play list for a long time to come.
If you don’t know anything about Orden Ogan, they are a great power metal band out of Germany. I’d say if you were to write a soundtrack for “Game of Thrones” using heavy metal music, this would be the band to pick to write and play it. The music just has the feel of the old, without actually crossing the line into folk metal. You can imagine rushing to attack a castle with sword drawn high with this music in the background.
