Venue: Sound Board @ Motor City Casino

City: Detroit, MI

Date: December 18, 2014

Review and Photographs by: Todd “Toddstar” Jolicoeur (

As the crowd filed into The Sound Board at Motor City Casino, you could feel a relaxed electrical charge in the air.  This venue was about to witness the R&B finesse of chanteuse Chrisette Michele.  As the lights dimmed the buzz of the crowd was more noticeable and defining over the din of the Christmas music being piped through the sound system.  With the lights out, Ms. Michele’s band took to the stage and stood idly by while an announcement was made declaring tonight’s show a sell out.  Within moments of this announcement, the stage lights started to come up and Chrisette took her position at the front of the stage.  As the music began and her voice came through the speakers, it was evident to everyone in attendance tonight that they were in for one hell of a show.  The band played well and accentuated the vocals quite nicely.  The background vocals were spot on and lifted the lead vocals to a seemingly higher plane.  The lead vocals and stage control of Chrisette Michele made the night complete.  This woman can sing – make no mistake about it.  Her sultry voice grew in spots to highlight the emotionally charged lyrics of her songs in spots, while tapering themselves to fit the rhythm and movement of other songs and lyrics.  Forget listening to the many releases and singles from Chrisette catalog – you need to experience this talent live and in-person.  Her stage presence and performance alone are worth the price of admission – add her beauty to the mix and you have a complete package sure to please any crowd, just as it did on a chilly night in Detroit at the Sound Board inside Motor City Casino.
