Sunset Events successful in Fremantle Artillery Drill Hall Expression of Interest

Press release:

Fremantle based promoters Sunsets Events has been successful in its expression of interest in relation to The Artillery Drill Hall in Fremantle after recently presenting its vision for the venue to the National Trust (WA).

After actively pursuing a space for a multi purpose live music venue in Fremantle, Sunset Events recognised what an exciting opportunity The Artillery Drill Hall presented. Central to Sunset’s vision is a more comprehensive use of the venue via activation of all spaces within The Artillery Drill Hall, thereby enhancing the foot traffic through the greater Fremantle area. This investment will contribute to the economic and cultural impact on the town and community at large.

As a Fremantle owned and operated business, Sunset Events has an intimate understanding and passion for Fremantle and was driven by the possibilities to maximise the visitation and use of the entire space over a broader range of hours.

Sunset is well positioned to commit to the lease and will aim to considerably boost the amount of live music touring acts through the Main Hall. Sunset will leverage its excellent music industry contacts to target profiled local, national and international acts. The Small Hall will continue to accommodate intimate tours, rehearsals, band competitions and album launches for local talent.

Both Halls will be open for use during the day by a broader group of community and arts organisations, providing a variety of meeting and rehearsal spaces. Sunset has held initial discussions with a range of arts and community organisations with a vision for the venue to become a hub for new and emerging talent across a wide range of performing arts groups.

Along with the Halls, Sunset plan to activate the adjoining two-storey brick building by introducing a quality food and beverage experience whilst utilising upstairs as an admin and artist-in-residence space for creatives and community organisations.

Sunset Events are willing to commit to a long-term 21 year lease and plan to make a significant investment towards the heritage works as well as fitting the space out to match its vision.

Sunset Events will now enter into lease negotiations with the National Trust which will include consultation with the The Fly By Night Musicians Club regarding when the lease would commence. Sunset Events recognise the excellent work of the Fly By Night Musicians Club (The Fly) in developing the space as a live music venue for Fremantle. Whilst disappointed that the Fly’s Board decided against a joint submission to the National Trust, Sunset remained committed to securing the future of the venue as a live music space. Sunset looks forward to meeting with The Fly’s Board and discussing continued use of the venue for its members as well as offering the space for the clubs fundraising activities.

Sunset Events look forward to working closely with the National Trust (WA) and the broader community on The Artillery Drill Hall project.
