An Evening with Sandi Thom Australian Tour
An Evening with Sandi Thom Australian Tour
Scottish troubadour and multi-instrumentalist, Sandi Thom is overjoyed to announce a east coast tour, bringing her blues-rock flair back to Australian audiences in intimate solo mode.
Thom got her big break by being pretty much the first artist to ‘go viral’ on the internet by staging a live-streamed tour from her London flat in 2006. Since then she’s had multi-platinum sales with a major label and topped the singles charts both here and in the UK with the folky hit “I Want to be a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair)”. Now a defiantly independent artist, Thom has established world-wide distribution for her own label and released three albums on her own, including 2012’s Flesh and Blood, produced by Black Crowes co-founder Rich Robinson.
“‘Punk Rocker’ painted a very firm picture,” she explains. “Everybody expected that everything that came after would sound like that too. Hopefully this new album will change people’s perception of me as a musical artist, and become more open to me again. This really shows what else there is to me.”
Since she last visited our shores in 2013, Thom has been as busy as ever, touring the US, UK and Scandinavia and filming a DVD live from a sold out hometown show in Scotland.
Thom also recently released a covers album – “The Covers Collection” – which was recorded at Lion Share Studios in LA – famous for recordings by Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac and many more. The Covers Collection is a selection of songs that have been an influence on Sandi Thom’s life and career as a musician. .
“All instruments and vocals were performed by me. I’m the only performer on the record. And it’s self produced.”
Sandi has become a big fan touring Australia since her 2013 visit introduced her to many parts of the country that she missed on previous trips.
“While I was in Queensland I visited a waterfall called Crystal Cascades. My friend and I climbed up rocks and the river to get to the most remote waterfall. It was an amazing experience to swim under them!”
After this trip down under Sandi Thom heads back into the studio to begin work on her sixth album, captained by legendary producer Val Garay (Bonnie Raitt, Joan Armatrading, Linda Ronstadt)
