Shane’s Rock Challenge: TEXAS – 1999 – The Hush

4/10 for me – 8/10 for Trulie
M’Lady put this one on the other day, and since some of her albums have been assimilated into The Family Collection, it’s only fair that I sat and listened to it* and am now including it in my Rock Challenge.
Now, first things first. I love the first Texas album – it’s full of slide guitar and throaty vocals from Sharleen Spiteri. It’s been a favourite from the first time I heard the single I Don’t Want A Lover.
By the time of fifth album The Hush, their direction was much poppier and synthesised and with nary a slide guitar to be heard 🙁 . It paid off for them big time with a Number 1 album and seventy zillion sales, however. It’s boring as hell to me, though, but in the interest of fairness, Trulie thinks otherwise.
She cites In Our Lifetime as a standout (and I concur, it has a catchy hook), along with Tell Me The Answer, Summer Son, Day After Day and The Day Before I Went Away.
