Shane’s Music Challenge: DIRTY PENNY – 2007 – Take It Sleezy
7.5/10

Dirty Penny - Keep It Sleezy cover

If there’s one U.S. band who looked like they could bring sleazy glam rock back at the end of the 2000’s, it was Dirty Penny, a four piece of big haired young lads from Santa Cruz, California who knew how to rock hard.

Taking influence from Skid Row, Guns n’ Roses and especially early Motley Crue, Take It Sleezy brought rock back at ground roots level – by driving around the country and playing gigs in every shitstop town, converting followers as they went.

There’s something primal about songs like Hot & Heavy, Sleeze Disease, Black n’ Blue, Scream & Shout and Vendetta, and what they lack in lyrical originality, they more than make up for with a collection of songs that burst from your speakers with sass and stomp. They went on to make another album in 2009 but the band sadly folded a year or two after that.
