I reviewed the debut release from this band quite a while ago on a different site and my review stands to this day. This is a great album of eclectic tunes from a group of eclectic musicians. The songs are well constructed and played even better. This live set stands up nicely as a companion piece to the original disc. The sounds are clean, the playing tight, and the energy high.
Live discs aren’t really my thing, but it was nice to see these guys didn’t rest on their laurels and just play to play. They set out to play the disc and please the fans of the band and its collective members. The band stretches out and gives each member a moment to bask in their own glory, by playing one track from each players previous musical journey, along with allowing vocalist Casey McPherson to stretch his wings a bit on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” These tracks alone are enough to warrant grabbing this disc.
The disc is played slightly out of order, but it doesn’t disrupt the memory of the original disc, nor does it cause a flow issue, as the original disc was a set of great tracks that stood on their own, without needing to lean upon their predecessor or successor. The addition of the other tracks adds a little depth to the band as they demonstrate how talented they really are as musicians when given the task of playing other artists parts.
