Today, esoteric, experimental artisan’s Locrian premiere their new video for “Exiting The Halls of Vapor and Light” via Self-Titled Magazine here.  The video is an abstract interpretation directed by George Moore of the instrumental track that appears on their new full-length Return To Annihilation which Self-Titled calls “a bleak but strangely beautiful exploration of experimental metal, nihilistic noise and dive-bombing drones.”

Additionally, the band recently performed a live session with Violitionist in Denton, TX which can be seen here.  Recorded in April 2013, the session includes three live performances and is also available as a free download.

“Eternal Return” off of their new full-length Return To Annihilation. The video was directed by Aleks Slota and is available via Stereogum here.

Return To Annihilation was released in June by Relapse Records is currently available for streaming via their Bandcamp page here.  A video for the track “Eternal Return” directed by Aleks Slota premiered last month via Stereogum here.

The album was recorded with Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian, Circles, Serena Maneesh) at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, IL and mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service.

A two-part concept album inspired by the band’s love for prog-rock progenitors Genesis, Yes & King Crimson, Return To Annihilation is easily the group’s most ambitious recordings to date, dubbed by Pitchfork as both “excellent” and “risky”, by Stereogum as “a corona of dream-pop and visceral shoegaze” and Outburn Magazine as “an excellent effort from one of the world’s most creative, interesting, and uncompromising bands.”

Physical CD and 2xLP orders are available via Relapse here and digital orders available via iTunes here.

Locrian, located in Chicago, IL and Baltimore, MD, has released over 20 recordings on an eclectic array of labels in their relatively short but prolific career.

The group an appearance at Kentucky’s Boomslang Festival in September and plan to announce more dates shortly.

Tour Dates:

“an eclectic float down murky, noxious, sludgy waters.” – Spin

“What’s most rewarding about Return to Annihilation is this sense of narrative and emotional limbo, or the feeling that supposedly staunch binaries– birth and death, beauty and brutality, triumph and defeat– function exclusively in interrelated arcs.” – 8.0/10 – Pitchfork

“This is an excellent effort from one of the world’s most creative, interesting, and uncompromising bands”. – Outburn

“If the wrath of heaven sounds anything like Locrian , then archangel Michael has been digging into the prog-rock bin lately.” -NPR

“A corona of dream-pop and visceral shoegaze… goddamn is it good.” – Stereogum

“Sliding some malicious black metal menace into the gaps created by their dreamlike, sometimes nightmarish, ambient drones…few albums prove to be quite so unsettling.” – The Digital Fix
