Fan Votes Garner Country Duo, Striking Matches, Performance Slot at O Music Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 12, 2013) – The fans have spoken, and thanks to their swarming votes, up-and-coming country music duo Striking Matches will perform as part of “Live Music Day” during MTV/VH1/CMT’s O Music Awards on June 19 at 7 p.m. EDT. The only country artist of ten nominees in the “Make A Band Famous” category, the duo received enough fan votes to put them in the top five and garner a coveted performance opportunity during the awards show. This announcement comes only 24 hours after revealed Hunter Hayes hand-picked them to open his MTV Artist To Watch concert on June 18 in NYC! Fans can continue to vote for Striking Matches to take home the title of MTV’s Artist To Watch, VH1’s You Oughta Know or CMT’s Listen Up artist and score a prime performance slot surrounding the VMAs in August by voting here.

The O Music Awards, or Online Music Awards, is a 24-hour live-streaming party which celebrates the best in digital music and features performances from some of the brightest stars in music including Ashley MonroeGavin DeGrawMatt Nathanson and many more.

“We want to send a huge thank you to every one of our incredible fans who have voted to get us this far and continue to vote until their fingers fall off every day. We are so honored to get to represent you and hopefully make you proud in New York City,” said the duo’s female half,Sarah Zimmermann. “We can’t put into words how grateful we are for all of you! Let’s show them what country music fans are capable of doing!”

“Our fans have been amazing with voting and spreading the word,” duo member Justin Davisadded in his interview with “It’s an honor just to make it this far, but we reallywant to win, if only because our fans have worked so hard to get us here!”

About Striking MatchesStriking Matches, made up of Sarah Zimmermann and Justin Davis, has been featured on ABC’s Nashville and performed at the Grand Ole Opry more than ten times since their debut in December 2012.
