Kingsfoil. Not sure who they are or where they are from? Once you listen to the tracks on their sophomore effort, it won’t matter (but if you must know, they are based in central Pennsylvania – thanks Nina). These guys are building on something here, and it is good. No, it is really good. There seems to be a small buzz around them due to the identity of their drummer – actor Frankie Muniz – but don’t be mistaken, these guys are serious musicians and they do this well.
Disc opener “American Veins” is an excellent way to introduce a listener to the band. These guys really blend vocals and music well. They compliment each other well on this track and the next track, “Morning Dove.” One of my favorites is next, with “What Your Mother Taught You.” This one keeps the listener engaged and interested.
Another of my favorites here is “Hope Is Still On The Prowl.” The guitar and vocals dance well here and when the rhythm section kicks in, you have the makings of a cool track. The songs keep coming and are very good. There doesn’t seem to be any big drops in quality tracks here. The imagery in the songs and playing seem to stay strong even through the title track, which is the ninth song on the disc.
If you really want something fresh and exciting, check this disc out. You won’t have any new metal to stomp and head bang to, but you will have a quality band to count among your new favorites… at least I do.
