Every once in a while, an unsigned band throws something out there for the masses to check out and purchase. Brother Apollo is one of those bands utilizing Bandcamp.com. This group of youngsters (guitarists are 19, vocalist/bassist is 22, drummer is 20) are on to something here.
This six track EP starts off with “Untitled,” which happens to be one of my favorites here. The musicianship is strong and the the song is constructed really well. The third track, “Consequences” is another track in the same vein with a little twist to it. “Between The Wasteland And Sky” is up next and has the band headed in another direction as well. It isn’t that these guys don’t know who they are or what they want to do, but are showing off their diversity. The final two tracks are on the lighter side, again, demonstrating the bands talent to spread out and cover all the bases. Final track “Anacrusis” has a groove and jam feel to it that shows off one of the better sides of this band. The progressive-fusion talents here shine and stand out, especially drummer Will Mintline.
If you are looking for really good alternative rock, this might be for you. If you want to see what a great unsigned band can sound like, this might be for you. If you want to support young guys who play music because they love it – this is definitely for you.
