SUGAR LOUISE – On The Radio – 7” single

Billy McBarbie – he of the impossibly cool and glacially blonde barnet like some Norwegian Noel Fielding – leads his “poppunx” Sugar Louise back into the fray with this irresistibly bouncy and catchy number.

Pop Punk is an easy genre to get wrong, and a lot of bands err on the side of nicey-nice – thankfully McBarbie & Sugar Louise have their trashy glam sleaze rock backgrounds in Slomber close to mind and make sure that things still remain more punk and raw than pop. Recorded by one of Norway´s most talented engineers, Pål Brekkås, and mastered by Ted Jensen (Buckcherry, Green Day, Metallica) at Sterling Sound, NYC, the end result bounces straight out of the speakers like a summer party.

Don’t think we missed the in joke, by the way – fronting a song tailor made for radio with a catchy chorus that instantly takes up lodging in the brain, whilst singing “I hate your song, they play it on the radio all day long, with that catchy chorus all the people wanna sing along” is irony at it’s best and brimming with the cheeky attitude we’ve come to love from these Nordic upstarts.

The b-side is the wonderful Dreaming Of Keira K, last seen as a hidden track on their debut album “Everything’s Better With Sugar”, and one more reason to buy this. Surely it can’t be long before the rest of the world catch on to the raw sugary delights of Sugar Louise!

Available from iTunes or on 7” vinyl from the band directly:
