DE LA CRUZ – Self titled EP
Self released October 2011
By Shane Pinnegar
8/10
Remember Roxus and Boss – late 80’s radio bothering, big haired Aussies who played a riffy AOR style of bubbly hard rock? Well Brisbane’s De La Cruz may well be their descendants – serving up a debut 6 track EP chock full of polished, hook-filled pop metal classics.
Opener ‘Good As It Gets’ is as good a Dokken-esque slice of torn-singlet, patched denim jeans, teased hair and bandana wearing rock as I’ve heard all year, and in ‘Lust Fame Money’ they have a Def Leppard styled radio winner. Indispensible!
Throw in ‘Back To The 80’s’, another instant AOR classic which does exactly what it says on the tin, and their eponymous pop-rock-tastic track ‘De La Cruz’ to close out the mini album, and you have a classy taster that should whet many appetites for a full length album.
