The zombie movie genre has exploded in the last few years, thanks to The Walking Dead television series, and great movies such as Zombieland, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, and to a lesser extent World War Z. Of course, with every decent movie within the genre, there are 27 inferior entries. Where does Maggie fit in I hear you ask, well this is not your traditional Zombie flick…

If you are after something along the lines of The Walking Dead, or you think you’re going to be seeing Arnie armed to the teeth blowing up Zombies and spitting one liners, you have come to the wrong place, and quite frankly, this is not the movie for you.

Abigail Breslin plays Maggie, a young girl who has been infected with a virus that will soon have her turn into a zombie, and the film centres on how her and her family, specifically her father, played by Schwarzenegger, deal with the situation, and the tough decisions that are going to need to be made.

Maggie is a slow burner. There is very little in the way of zombie action sequences, or chaep thrills to keep you on the edge of your seat. It is all story and emotion here, and it works very well.

Like I said earlier, if you’re after Arnie in action mode, this is not the film you’re looking for. Go and get Sabotage, and give that a watch. It’s definitely the best action flick he has made since going back to making movies. Maggie on the other hand, is arguably the greatest acting achievement of his career, and it’s really not that large of a role.

I think it may take a few years, but I can see this becoming a cult classic.
