NAZI’S ON THE MOON!!!!  I kid you not!!!!

In this Australian/German/Finnish co-production, it’s 2018, and a Sarah Palin-like president has sent a rocket to the moon, where Christopher Kirby’s astronaut James Washington discovers a Nazi base on the dark side of the moon (who knew the nazi’s liked Pink Floyd, right?!?).

Hi jinks ensue as the astronaut’s mobile phone is used to power the nazi’s spaceship that has laid dormant since their escape from Earth in 1945, Washington is turned Aryan, school teacher Renate Richter (Julia Dietze, who steals the show) becomes scriptwriter to the U.S. President before realising the error of her ways, and new Fuhrer Klaus Adler (Gotz Otto) tries to invade the Earth.

Director Timo Vuorensola (also a Finnish black-metal singer) throws in plenty of in-jokes (playing Star Wars music during a space battle, for one) and keeps things taught for most of the movie, with proceedings only slowing down in the last 20 or so minutes as the cast run in circles seeking a resolution that only kinda half makes sense.

Still, there are some bizarre and entertaining deaths amidst all the huffing n’ puffing as the good guys seek to triumph.

It’s a great, fun premise and Vuorensola handles it with the requisite B-movie sense of a humorous, rollicking good yarn.  Throw in some great outer space sequences and fun performances from Udo Kier as the post-Hitler Fuhrer, Tilo Prukner as the Einstein-like Doctor Richter and Aussie Peta Sergeant as the President’s PR spinner-in-chief, and you have a cult classic waiting to happen!
