2014 STATE OF THE ART MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED

State Of The Art 2014

Celebrate WA, in partnership with West Australian Music (WAM), presents the third annual State of the Art (SOTA), Perth’s one-day music festival solely dedicated to showcasing West Australian artists.

SOTA will return to the city on Saturday 31 May as part of the WA Day long weekend celebrations. Hosting a diverse range of exclusively local talent, spanning eras and ranging genres, the festival includes an exciting line-up of 34 artists across multiple stages, with more to be announced.

The Perth Cultural Centre will host the day’s entertainment as a new venue for SOTA. Featuring four separate undercover stages, performances from well-known WA artists will take place in the WA Museum Grounds, the Urban Orchard and the State Theatre Centre of WA, as well as an exciting free venue, which will be announced closer to date.

At only $35 (plus booking fee) a ticket, the all-ages festival is a fantastic, value-for-money celebration for all. SOTA will include multiple licensed areas as well as a number of other entertainments including live visual art, pop-up acoustic performances and a food truck market.

DRAPHT – ESKIMO JOE – SAN CISCO – THE STEMS – OPTAMUS – THE BLACKEYED SUSANS – THE KILL DEVIL HILLS – KIM SALMON – SPLIT SECONDS – BITTER BELIEF – SABLE – FELICITY GROOM – THE FLOORS – MATHAS – KUČKA – SLUMBERJACK – GINA WILLIAMS AND GUY GHOUSE – RUBY BOOTS – SIMONE AND GIRLFUNKLE – GUNNS – AXE GIRL – PAT CHOW – INDIGO – KEVIN PARKER (TAME IMPALA) DJ SET – AND MUCH MORE!

Headlining the event is wordsmith, re-arranger, perfectionist and all-round hip-hop extraordinaire Drapht, one of Australia’s most recognised alternative rock bands Eskimo Joe, and Perth’s youngest internationally renowned band and indie-pop darlings San Cisco.

Joining these headliners is a line-up of fantastic iconic local bands, who are sure to appeal to the nostalgia of Perth music lovers. The Stems, who have recently reunited with a new band consisting of founding members Don Mariani, Julian Matthews and Dave Shaw, and featuring Ashley Naylor, will be performing in their only WA show on tour – their first in four years. The Blackeyed Susans, who over the past twenty years have toured with the likes of Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash, are returning to perform for their hometown from a sold-out season across Australia and Europe. Multiaward winning group, The Kills Devil Hills, will also be returning from their successful overseas ventures to grace the stage with their acoustic, country-tinged tunes.

Noongar singer-songwriter Gina Williams will team up with her dear friend and collaborator Guy Ghouse for a special performance where their evocative sounds and natural acoustic instruments, paired with Williams’ beautiful voice, is sure to transcend language barriers. Perth’s own luscious lady of song Felicity Groom will interchange her sweet sultry tones and bursts of wailing and growling in what is assured to be a broody and unique performance. Adding to the array, a special DJ set from Tame Impala front-man, Kevin Parker, is certain to have electro psychedelic fans moving.

Several up-and-coming groups will hit the stage including pop rockers Gunns, as well the boys from Indigo, whose soft-rock alternative sounds are making waves locally and nationally. Poet and MC prodigy Bitter Belief will take to the stage and show why he is the next big thing in hip-hop. An array of electronic outfits including tongue-in-cheek electro-pop-rock band Axe Girl, unique electro music duo Slumberjack, electro-indie outfit Sable and experimental-pop princess Kučka, will awaken the dance floors of SOTA for a truly unforgettable festival.
