As a fan of Hollywood Undead from the first album, I was excited to hear they were hitting Detroit on their current co-headlining tour with Cypress Hill, dubbed the West Coast High Tour.  After a short set from both Demrick and Xzhibit, I took my spot for the opening of the HU set and settled in for the next hour plus.  The five guys collectively known as Hollywood Undead took the stage one at a time as the opening track kicked off.  Armed with tracks from their most recent release. 2017’s Five, as well as a short catalog worth of material, they were able to cull a setlist that would please all of their fans – long time and first time.  While Johnny 3 Tears and Danny tackled a majority of the lead vocals, every man on stage does his part… from Charlie Scene and his banter and interaction with the crowd, including a killer scream with an audience member to J-Dog’s handling of bass and guitar duties throughout the night, in addition to some lead vocals of his own.  Funny Man added his attitude and raps along the way helping round out the stage time and collective sounds and harmonies the band delivers.  A few favorites of mine hit the set tonight, including a great rendition of “Bullet” and the one-two punch of “Hear Me Now” and “Everywhere I Go” to help bring the set to a close before wrapping up with “Day Of The Dead.”

While I aw aware of who Cypress Hill is, I wasn’t familiar with a lot of their music – so I had to settle in and take their set in and absorb the music and vibe.  The stuff is pretty good.  I have never been a big smoker, but the vibe of the set and the show was fun and laid back with some great jams and fun lyrics and an overall party feel.  The stage was simple – a DJ and percussionist Eric Bobo that accompanied B-Real and Sen Dog as they did what they do best – rap and sing and entertain.  Without a big light show, flashy instruments, or any pyrotechnics, these guys delivered the show their fans came to see.  The crowd got into the set and kept the energy flowing back and forth between the stage and where they were standing, dancing, singing, and enjoying.  While this wasn’t my normal show, I dug the set and the way the duo interacted with the crowd that came out on a Sunday night to hang and chill with them.
