Raise The Flag 2013

HAILMARY bring all the experience of their high rotation touring schedule to The Charles tonight, delivering a blistering set of inspired hard rock as seen through grunge-tinted glasses. If there’s a band doing it harder and better in this town right now, 100% ROCK MAG doesn’t know about ‘em.

DESTROY SHE SAID have flown in from Melbourne specially for this weekend’s West Oz shows, and they had no intention of doing anything other than making their presence felt, despite singer Simon McCullough’s navigationally challenged “Hello Fremantle”! Blasting out tracks from their debut album Down To Dirty such as Overrated, Game Over, Driving Machine, Squirter and Soul Sucker, they are raw, loud and tight and the full room can’t sit still for any of this. Reminiscent of a younger Electric Mary – one of the best live bands in the country, lest you need reminding – DSS round out a killer set with the Bon-like sneer of Hookers Don’t Kiss and instaclassic No Church.

McCullough’s not done yet by a long shot – he’s back tearing his throat apart with RAISE THE FLAG for a set of classic early Accadacca, alongside guitarists Bob Spencer (Skyhooks, The Angels) and James Morley (The Angels), drummer Yak Sherrit (Johnny Diesel, Jimmy Barnes), Mick Adkins (Rogue Sharks) and unlikely ring-in Chris Murphy (Australian Idol).

They raise temperatures as well as the flag with a rousing set of the favourites and some less obvious album tracks as well, McCullough and Spencer especially firing on all cylinders through Sin City, It’s A Long Way To The Top, Highway To Hell and many more, giving Bon another celebration that we all wish he were still around to have been at.
