According to a recent press release: “Like Machines have released 3 singles so far with thought-provoking and wildly different videos that are getting a lot of attention. Their latest video, Run, Hide debuted #1 on Vevo’s ‘Incoming Rock.’ The tracks were added to various playlists including Loudwire’s Weekly Wire, Spotify’s Hard Rock playlist and Octane’s Test Drive. Eddie Trunk has also called them out as a band to watch. Like Machines will be opening for Collective Soul @ The Roxy in Atlanta November 29.” We get singer Andrew to discuss new music, influences, and much more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

You may be grabbed by “Run, Hide” because of how the song starts, and how the song changes throughout. It’s a little bit different of an arrangement. We occasional put some nuggets in tracks, but you might have to really listen to find out what they are.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

My sister actually asked for a guitar for Christmas and started playing and then I started playing an old broken nylon string I found. Then I bought my first electric guitar that I still have today.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Guns N Roses – Appetite For Destruction

4. Who would be your main five musical influences?

GNR, Chris Cornell, Rage Against The Machines, Queens of the Stone Age, and Pantera.

5. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Either Josh Homme from QOTSA, or Robby Staebler from All Them Witches. I just really enjoy the styles of music and sounds express.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

I describe it as hard-rock/metal. Mostly just physical appearance comparisons haha

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

I’m sure Cheney would cook, I’d have the drinks and Tanner and I would both have a guitar.

8. When was the last time you were star struck and who was it?

Meeting Ed Roland of Collective Soul and the rest of the band.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

Expressing myself and creating something new. An anthropologist/archaeologist.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I can’t think of a question I’ve wanted someone to ask me haha. One question I don’t like is who is your favorite band of all time.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”, even if it didn’t change your current situation?

I think everything that has happened is part of something bigger. So I don’t think there has been any missteps.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Maybe the self-titled Rage against The Machine record. It’s so lively.
