10 Quick Ones with ADAM RAMEY of DROPOUT KINGS – July 2018

| 23 July 2018 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Just a few weeks ago, the Arizona-based six pack DROPOUT KINGS released the single “Scratch&Claw”of their debut album AudioDope which will be released on August 10 via Napalm Records.” We get Adam to discuss new music, influences, and more in our 10 Quick Ones…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Our debut LP AudioDope comes out Aug 10th. It’s currently available for pre-order on all major platforms. Basically, this is the littlest thing I’ve ever done and you’ll be shakin’ that ass by the end of the first track. We have a few anime puns in the album that i think people will like a lot!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I would steal my aunt’s Hybrid Theory album and jam it in my room and I was obsessed with wanting to know every lyric. My first concert (Slipknot) I knew i belonged on stage.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Linkin Park, Slipknot, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, and Bring Me The Horizon.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

I’d have to say Post Malone.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park fucked and had a baby.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Meeting people and traveling the world.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

No one ever cooks – definitely someone is ordering food and Rob or Staig usually busts the drinks out. Definitely Staig with the acoustic.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I’d love to be an actor.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

I’ve had so much crazy stuff happen on my journey, but honestly I wouldn’t change a thing. Every failure taught me more about what it takes to make something happen. It also set me up in the situation i’m in now. Every experience good or bad is crucial in your development. Never let a mishap set you back. Always be pressing forward.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park! It’s the main album that got me into music and nu-metal in general. It has probably had the largest impact on my life compared to anything else.
