10 Quick Ones with ALAN SACHA LASKOW of EVERY HOUR KILLS – June 2018

| 21 June 2018 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Progressive Metal band EVERY HOUR KILLS has released a new single, “Illusorian,” off of their upcoming EP, Fragile Machine. Originally premiered on Gear Gods, “Illusorian” features Andrew Ivashchenko (Shokran) and Mattias IA Eklundh.  The new EP titled Fragile Machine to be released on July 6th, 2018, explores the questions of what comes next in human evolution. What does it mean to be a human, if consciousness can be stored in a machine? The artwork depicts an enormous server cube floating in space, after the technological singularity, which contains mankind’s digitized minds living forever in an infinite dream created from code. The material christened ‘Scorecore’ by the band, ranges in dynamics and will resonate with fans familiar with heavy weights such as Soilwork, Amaranthe, and In Flames.” We get Alan to discuss new music, influences, and more in our 10 Quick Ones…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

There are goat sounds hidden throughout, it’s somewhat of a trademark of mine. Actually, though there are upwards of 200 tracks of instrumentation on most songs, so there is a lot of ear candy and different layers to prostate massage the ears upon repeated listens.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I almost died from a virus as a young lad, and I managed to manipulate my parents into buying me a shitty guitar when I survived. I played that piece of crap Jaguar strat for 8 hours a day after that. The power of Metal compelled me.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Death / Cynic, Satriani / Vai, and Morbid Angel.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

I already got to collaborate with some of my favourite musicians on Earth on the new EP, but I’d love to do something with John Petrucci.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Modern Melodic Metal and / or “ScoreCore”

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Creating something from nothing.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

We’re an internet project primarily so this doesn’t happen really. Some of the boys go for a nice bowl of beef noodle soup and a chat on occasion.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Actor. Musician isn’t my job, anyway.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

Not really, you learn from every experience and it shapes how you are today, good and bad. I wish I would have stuck to my guns and wrote my own stuff more often.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I would be a fly on the wall for Dream Theater – Images and Words or Meshuggah – Future Breed Machine since both of those changed the face of Metal.
