10 Quick Ones with FAREWELL TO FEAR – June 2018

| 15 June 2018 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Farewell to Fear released their new album, entitled Voices. The album is available through Pavement Entertainment and can be downloaded and streamed digitally, as well as purchased in select independent record stores. Farewell to Fear was born out of the huge black hole that mainstream rock radio left during the absence of super rock stars like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. The band revisits that era with big rock riffs, big choruses, and big anthems for a new generation of mainstream rockers.” We get the band to discuss new music, influences, and more in our 10 Quick Ones…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Voices is our new release, and we feel like it’s meant to sucker punch you.  It’s loaded with those anthemic choruses that you might not sing right away, but out of nowhere – you find yourself chanting out the blue.  Well we have always made our ballad a very emotional song on every record – and voices is no different.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Jimmy – I’m a little kid watching mtv and seeing Van Halen’s jump and seeing Alex bang away and having four bass drums – it clicked

Jeremy – Nikki six is my hero.  That started it all. Our families were all very supportive and definitely encouraged us to play and helped us get to where we are now.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

That’s a tough one. Our influences are all over the place. Foo Fighters, Metallica, Faith No More, Def Leppard, and Demon Hunter

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

Being a musical nerd – Barry Gibb.  Do you have any idea how many hit songs he wrote not only for himself, but for other artists?  Google it.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

Farewell To Fear is a rock band that harnesses influences from the grunge area, and still embraces the arena anthems of the past but with a modern spin.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

Making music is a blessing.  It’s an expression of who you are, and for us – connecting with people just makes it even better.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Jimmy has stepped up as our chef/grill master.  Mike likes a frosty cold one, and Mojo is usually the one cranking out tunes.  Jeremy is glued to reality tv.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

Mojo would be a stand up comic, Jeremy sevens would be the CEO of “Seven’s Heaven” a adult movie production company that also has its own national chain of gentleman’s clubs, Jimmy would like to have his own birthday party entertainment complex, wedding reception hall, Mike would sell motorcycles, and Dirk – well he’s a beach bum.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

The music business is a tough business to be in.  We maybe didn’t make a good move here or there, but every thing we did brought us to where we are today.  If anything – when Howard stern played our cover on his show, we should have pushed and toured harder.  But you live and you learn.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

We all would have different answers: Let’s go with Thriller, by Michael Jackson.   That’s a record that will stand the test of time. Featured amazing musicians, including Eddie Van Halen and the great producer Quincy Jones.   Every song is a hit – it’s an iconic record and it’s what all musicians strive for – to leave there mark on the world.
