Talk about keeping it all in the family, SheWolf are three extremely talented twenty-one-year-old sisters – triplets, no less – hailing from Melbourne who’ve produced a really good debut album in The Other Side.

We’re thankfully way past the days of an all-girl band being considered any kind of novelty, and as your Tequila Mockingbyrds and Legs Electrics and SheWolfs release ever-better records, it’s the boys who may soon be considered novelties.

Assured, well-written classy songs are wall-to-wall on The Other Side: Opener Just Pretend sets the tone perfectly with a rocking sound that isn’t too aggressive; the title track is a heartbreaker ballad far beyond their years; Love Train and Chameleon pick up the pace and imbue their individual rock sound with a pulsating and funky groove; One Last Kiss is a minor epic and a stunning standout.

Vocalist Serena doesn’t just have a great voice, her delivery is impeccable. Drummer Nikki hits heavy and hard, while guitarist Cassandra shreds with the best of them. On top of all this, Nikki and Cassandra’s harmony vocals fit so effortlessly with Serena’s that there’s no doubt the family genes run deep in the Vlahos family.

The Other Side is an outstanding debut for these young musos, and so full of promise for what they might come up with next.

This is an amazingly strong debut album full of sophisticated, memorable hits. The emotional depth of the songs and the delivery is outstanding. I have the title track and “Want You anyway” on repeat in the car. Seeing them live on Friday and can’t wait!
