As flamboyant frontman of Kings Of The Sun, Australia’s most internationally well-known hair metal band, Jeffery Hoad was the prancing, strutting black leather-clad, blonde mane-flicking love child of Jagger and Gene Vincent.

After a few years out of the spotlight Hoad has resurrected the band KOTS morphed into, The Rich And Famous, now a pulsatingly tight trio with KOTS alumni Dean Turner providing thumping bass, and drummer Dean Reeson pounding hard.

Title track Take Us To Your Leader is a super trashy midnight-movie gonzo reptilian alien invasion riff explosion, while Dirty Music is scuzzier and pub-rock-raw, full of Nugent-huge riffs and punk energy.

Strict Discipline will invite comparison to Johnny Rotten, especially on the Sex Pistols’ Submission, with it’s single-entendre lyrics and spikey delivery, and closer Have You Heard’s funky, slinky groove is loads of pelvic thrusting fun.

The jewel in the crown is the middle track of this 5-track EP, Blast Off, which has just been given a prestigious Akademia Best Rock Song award. Featuring a vital superhero riff that is equal parts punkish Thin Lizzy and hair metal glory, a melody that is both instantaneous and irresistible, dynamic in your face lyrics and bold, hyper-energetic performances, it’s an essential slice of rock which should be blasting out of radio speakers the world over if there was any justice in the music industry.

All killer, no filler, Take Us To Your Leader encapsulates all the swagger of the best world class rock n’ roll, and showcases Hoad’s maturity as both a songwriter and singer.
