Red Reign are pushing a new EP, but this is no new EP, this is a reworking of a few tracks from a previous release, and these tracks are stronger and pack a little crisper punch that the originals, thanks to being road tested and the band tightening up their sound over the last couple years.  Opener “Not That Way” is a cool rocker that takes you back to 80’s LA rock, with cool riffs, anthemic choruses, and an overall big melodic sound that permeates the track from first note to last.  The vocals are rich and well-suited against the big guitar sound that includes a lot of pings and squeals.  “Toxic” brings a more modern radio rock sound that helps show off the different sounds and textures of the bands feel, allowing them to be multi-faceted while remaining true to themselves as performers.  “Chains” is a bottom heavy track that leans into heavier territory without getting too heavy for the band or the EP.  The guitars chug and squeal while the vocals stream along.  The rhythm section anchors the track nicely, keeping it in check and allows the songs to fit comfortably against the others on the collection.  Title and band referenced track “Red Reign” is the final rework on the short collection.  This version brings a more intense texture than the original while maintaining the groove of the previously recorded track.  The song has a cool feel that nicely ties the various tracks together in sound and vibe.  Closer and lone new track “What Is Love For” delivers yet another sound for the band, with 80’s guitar and heavier modern rhythm section blended with clean vocals that deliver the emotionally charged lyrics.  This track is a nice indicator of the current sound and trajectory of the band.

ToddStar - that's me... just a rocking accountant who had dreams of being a rock star. I get to do the next best thing to rocking the globe - I get to take pictures of the lucky ones that do. I love to shoot all genres of music and different types of performers. If it is related to music, I love to photograph it. I get to shoot and hang with not only some of my friends and idols, but some of the coolest people around today.
