5 Way Addiction - Play Loud

From the look of the band photographed inside the CD cover (more gym [and possibly prison] time and tattoos than smiles), and track 1 – Mutha Rockers – you’d be forgiven for laying some big money down betting that these guys were weaned on AC/DC and Rose Tattoo from the moment they kicked down the door into this world and swaggered in swinging punches – and those elements are certainly present in 5 WAY ADDICTION’s music…

But there’s more. Much more.

For starters, there is a lot more sophistication and finesse to their musicianship than a mere photograph can convey. These songs – produced with style and class by Steve James, a veteran of Sex Pistols, Cold Chisel, Screaming Jets, The Angels and more – have Guns n’ Roses-style stadium class to them. A million-dollar polish that sits comfortably next to the raw rock on offer.

So we might just have a modern Oz Rock classic on our hands: the aforementioned opening track Mutha Rockers ploughs in like a heavyweight boxer looking for an instant knockout; She’s The Girl has a slinkier groove underneath the balls-out guitars; Acid Rain is (pardon the pun) searing; and Addiction’s slow burn offers a welcome change of pace to take a breath.

Very cool, very heavy, very Australian – and that means they have the shit to go global and match just about anyone.
