Philadelphia rockers Everlit released an EP and it made its way through our speakers.  This young band tackles the rock format head on and blends different sounds and textures.  “A Phoenix Will Rise” starts the disc off on the right foot, with a heavy handed bass line driving the track while a killer drum sound fills out the rhythm section.  The vocals are radio rock with a twist of hardcore thrown in.  “Break Away” is a straight ahead rocker that gets the foot tapping and the head banging.  After a riff-filled intro kicks off the track, the vocals jump in and build the songs momentum and energy.  This track is the highlight of the collection.  “Square One” opens with a mellow rock vibe anchored by the drums and a thumping bass line.  The vocals and guitars combine to form a cool sound on the verse and chorus.  “Black Out” is a guitar driven track that allows the rhythm section to join the fray.  The heavier texture of the track is matched when the vocals kick in with an edgier sound.  “Fake” is modern rock fodder that blends the different styles of the other tracks on the disc, with vocals that run from mellow to a bit of hardcore and back again.  This track, as well as “Break Away” should go over very well in a live setting.
