CD REVIEW: 28NORTH – World On Fire

28North

Label: Independent Release

Release Date: April 29, 2014

Rating: 8.5/10

28North comes at us with their latest and opens the disc with the killer track, “Monster.”  The guitars, drums, bass, and vocals combine to give us a great rock track with radio potential that should please most rockers.  “Restless” is a lighter track that gives the listener another glimpse of this radio rock oriented band.  The guitar intro is melancholy and cool – a nice offset against the previous rocker.  “Los Angeles” is another great track, even with the laid back approach to the verses and bridge.  The vocals play well against the guitars and rhythm section.  Coming off a bit like a rock inspired late 80’s-early 90’s Modern English, “Trails” give the disc more dimension by presenting a different vibe for the band and disc.  “Daddy” brings back the guitar and drum driven groove.  The bass lines dance across the track and keep the song from getting to serious or running away with itself.

Title track “World On Fire” has all the flare and trappings of a great rock song, including some of the best vocals on the disc.  This is a little heavier track that gives the band an edgy sound.  “Gone” has an earthy sound that permeates the track from open to close.  The drumming is great here and adds depth to the track when it kicks in underneath the chorus.  “Surrender” is a mellow track that keeps the disc anchored by combining aspects of other tracks on the disc, including a layered and lush arrangement in the chorus.  “Call Me Up” dials down the attitude and tone of the disc with a ballad-like track that presents another side of the band, especially the vocals and guitars, which mesh well on this track.  “Pride” closes the disc with another radio friendly track that brings the guitars and rhythm section to the front while keeping everything else in check.  This track, while a bit different than most of the tracks here, seems like an appropriate close to the disc.

  1. Eric "hotbox" Mullroy says:

    This band is garbage

  2. Eric – is there something specific you don’t like about this band? I know all music is not suited for all people; this band fit into my parameters and I enjoyed the disc, but to simply state the band is garbage is neither productive nor is it educational for anyone who may give them a listen. I would love to know what you think is so bad. Toddstar
