When Fred can’t sleep, his mum suggests he try counting sheep, but he doesn’t want to count sheep because they’re so boring, so he decided to count elephants instead.

He soon learns why people don’t count elephants to fall asleep.

All of a sudden the house is overrun; there are elephants dressed as superheroes and elephants dressed as pirates, elephants splashing in the bath and elephants riding scooters.

They’re rushing to and fro, making quite a ruckus, and it is impossible to count them.

The illustrations in this book are simple but cute, with lots of blocks of bold colours, but the rhyme is where this story really shines.

It has a good flow to it with some words emphasised in larger, bold font, ensuring that even on the first read the story hits the beat in just the right way. This is brilliant fun to read aloud and sure to get lots of giggles.

I am thrilled to add this title to my collection and will be seeking the author’s other title, Pirates in Pajamas.
